Many classroom teachers use the monarch butterfly to teach about life cycles. Unfortunately, in recent years North American monarch populations have been in decline. To help restore pollinator and monarch butterfly habitat, the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies has compiled a guide of the best-available resources for educators to use when teaching about monarch butterflies that align with academic standards. The resources include recommendations for curriculum and lesson plans; using live monarchs in the classroom; building pollinator gardens on school grounds; and citizen science opportunities for students.
